Em 2017, decidiu fazer a sua primeira curta, desta vez atrás da câmera. Agelasta é a sua estreia como realizadora.

Sara Gracia started acting at the age of 12. She participated in several theatre companies. In 2011, she made her acting debut for the big screen. O filme “O Corpo em Terapia” - sete passos de um caminho de autoconhecimento, apresenta o processo terapêutico com abordagem Corporal Transpessoal, adotado com três pessoas em um intensivo terapêutico realizado durante uma semana com cada participante. O filme documenta a transformação de Roberta, Pedro e Tania, onde o diálogo da razão com o corpo nos permite visualizar o resgate da dimensão da transcendência e o encontro com nós mesmos.

 

The documentary reveals the therapeutic process adopted with three patients during an intensive therapeutic process, where the dialogue of reason with the body, allow us to see the rescue of their transcendent dimension and the encounter with themselves. 
The film shows us the journey of healing and self-awareness through art and body consciousness, dispensing the use of medicines because the overrun of each case comes from the person's internal strength. 

 

Marcia Paveck has a Bachelor Degree in Audiovisual Communications - Cinema Studies by UNISINOS (2005-2008). She began her career in 2008 and since then she works as a director of documentaries, assistant director in films and as a coach of actors. 


In 2013 she began her Postgraduation degree in Transpersonal Psychology in ALUBRAT - Campinas/ Brazil and graduated in 2015. She get especialized in Art Theraphy and Body Therapy. 


She majored in Renaissance Therapy by Escuela Conexión Consciente de Rebirthing Internacional España/ Spain, by Fanny Van Laere following the founder Leonard Orr. 


Marcia Paveck is also graduated in Dance by Beatriz and Ligia Gutierres Dance School of Porto Alegre, where she studied and practiced classical ballet and various types of dance from 1991 to 2004. 

Integrating all her repertoire in the visual and healing arts, she currently works as a body, transpersonal and rebirth therapist, based in Sao Paulo and Porto Alegre. 


Marcia conducts group work facilitating self-awareness processes and consciousness awakening, as from the body and the arts.

Laura é uma cantora jovem de inspiração budista. Ela está vive com psicose. Buddha of Superposition é um filme de ficção de 11 minutos que usa um design inovador de som e imagem para levar a audiência para dentro da doença mental de Laura e contar a história das suas tentativas de se medicar através da tecnologia, imaginação e religião. Desenvolvido em discussão com profissionais da Psicologia durante a captação e edição, Buddha of Superposition também tenta aumentar a consciência e a compreensão da doença mental. Leva-nos além das alucinações auditivas e visuais ao mundo interno da psicose.

 

Laura is a Buddhist and young aspiring dramatic-singer. She is living with psychosis. Buddha of Superposition is an 11-minute fictional film that uses innovative sound and visual design to take the audience inside Laura's mental illness and tell the story of her attempts to medicate through technology, imagination and religion. Developed in discussion with psychological professionals during shooting and editing, Buddha of Superposition also attempts to raise awareness and understanding of mental illness. It take us beyond audio and visual hallucinations to the inner world of psychosis.

 

ALEXIS KIRKE

Is a award-winning filmmaker whose work has been called “the future of film-making” by Movies.com and whose screenings invites include  BBC TV, NPR, Indiewire, Movies.com, El Pais, The Verge, Filmmaker, Stuff, The Times, Al Jazeera TV, Gizmodo, New Scientist, and Digital Filmmaker. Alexis has worked as a Project Manager and a Stock Market Analyst (where he developed some of the foundation concepts of the industry textbook ‘Optimal Trading Strategies’), and has published articles on Algorithmic Performance. He has completed two PhDs, one in Arts and one in Technology. Alexis is also poet and critic who has written for publications such as Terrible Work, Oasis, Tremblestone (UK) and Transmog (US). He has been invited to read at Glastonbury Festival, and was editor of the UK’s first poetry webzine ‘Brink’.

Unfortunately, the depression is still seen with some taboo and prejudice in our society. The documentary "Clausura" (Closure) has as main proposal: to be able to break such stigmas. Bringing the public closer to the theme, through art, where artists from the city of São Paulo describe how to live with the disease and how it interferes on the their creative processes.

Depois que a filha nasceu, a documentarista Anne-Marieke Graafmans sofreu uma depressão pós-natal. Ela perdeu-se e lutou contra seu sofrimento e não amou o seu bebê. O mundo exterior não sabia dessa luta, apenas as pessoas mais próximas a ela. O tabu que cercava a depressão pós-parto impediu-a de falar sobre isso. Para criar mais atenção e compreensão para esse assunto, ela decidiu fazer um filme. CLOUD NINE é um documentário sobre a depressão pós-parto contada a partir da perspectiva de quatro famílias jovens. Um filme íntimo e sincero sobre o que é ter de lidar com isso.

Everyone says you’re floating on a cloud if your child has just been born. But what if this cloud is not pink, but pitch black?

After her daughter was born, documentary maker Anne-Marieke Graafmans ended up in a postnatal depression. She lost herself and fought against her grief and not loving her baby. The outside world didn’t know about this struggle, only those close to her. The taboo surrounding postnatal depression stopped her from talking about it. To create more attention and understanding for this subject, she decided to make a film about it. CLOUD NINE is a documentary about being in a postnatal depression told from the perspective of four young families. An intimate and candid film about what it’s like to have to deal with this.

 

“I didn’t feel love. I felt a lot of resentment towards her. I felt rage and anger. I knew it wasn’t her fault, but at the same time I knew that the misery I was in had started after she was born.”

 

Anne-Marieke Graafmans graduated from the Netherlands Film Academy in 2011 with the short documentary ALS IK JOU NIET HAD. Anne-Marieke received several awards and nominations for this film, including Best Student Film at the IDFA. After graduating, she took part in the IDFA Summer School with her new film plan WHEN THE ICE MELTS and in the IDFA Mediafonds workshop with the project VOLGENS PROTOCOL, which was nominated for a Golden Calf award in 2015. In that same year she made the documentary WIBI SOERJADI, which garnered a lot of interest and will premiere at the Netherlands Film Festival.

Pela repetição obsessiva de sons e imagens é traçado um retrato psicológico de um homem, através de breves apontamentos associados a eventos passados.


From the editing of archive footage, “Confidente” traces its narrative using methods of deconstruction from experimental cinema and associations of ideas close to surrealism. An obsessive repetition of sounds and images is used to sketch out a psychological portrait of a man, in brief notes associated with past events.

Doença mental - é algo que muitas vezes é considerado tabu. É algo em que as pessoas muitas vezes não querem falar ... algo que as pessoas às vezes fingem que não existe. No entanto, a doença mental é uma parte proeminente da minha vida, é parte de mim e é algo que penso em todos os dias. É por isso que escolhi adaptá-lo a uma animação CGI ou a uma "galeria" usando o software como se fosse um meio de arte. Trabalhei com metodologia experimental e não com o pipeline tradicional.

 

Mental illness - it’s something that is often considered taboo. It’s something people often do not want to talk about…something people sometimes pretend doesn’t exist. However, mental illness is a prominent part of my life, it is part of me and it is something that I think about every single day. That is why I chose to adapt it into a CGI animation or ‘gallery’ by using software as if it were a fine art medium. I worked with experimental methodology rather than the traditional pipeline.

My goal is to adapt some of the mental illnesses and disorders that I struggle with. I mostly focus on Anorexia Nervosa, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, and Generalised Anxiety Disorder. My project aims to personify these disorders in an ambiguous manner so each viewer has a unique interpretation after experiencing the film.

Deanna Crisbacher is an American student studying BA (Hons) Computer Animation Arts at The University for the Creative Arts at UCA Rochester. After living in the New Jersey (USA) until the age of 16, she moved to the UK and studied A-Level Art, Textiles, and Business Studies at Anglo European School. She then pursued Fine Art at the Foundation program at UCA Canterbury before progressing onto the BA (Hons) Computer Animation Arts course at UCA’s Rochester campus. Her passion and enthusiasm for creating art and films has allowed her to succeed in her studies.

No entanto, a família e os amigos de Eithne finalmente se aperceberam de sua visão musical ao lançar sua primeira gravação solo, Bilingua, em 2014, garantindo que o espírito e o talento de Eithne viverão para sempre.

A beautiful voice comes to us from the other side of eternity in this moving film about the life of seminal Irish singer Eithne Ní Uallacháin.

The film follows Eithne, her husband Gerry and their band Lá Lugh as they forged a new world music influenced sound into traditional Irish music releasing three albums to critical acclaim. 
Regardless of success, by the 1990s Eithne was struggling with bouts of depression. Despite the debilitating nature of her illness, she was determined that her creative output would flourish. She returned to the studio to begin work on her first solo album but before the album was completed she took her own life in 1999, aged just 42.

However, Eithne's family and friends finally realised her musical vision in releasing her debut solo recording, Bilingua, in 2014 ensuring that Eithne's spirit and talent will live on forever. 
Eithne’s story is told from the intimate perspective of family, friends and fellow musicians. The film was directed and produced by her son Feilimí O’Connor.

Hum’ is an intimate portrait of artist and singer-songwriter, Kevin Nolan. Diagnosed at 19 years old with schizoaffective disorder - which has been described as the 'unhappy marriage of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder’ - Kevin has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for much of his adult life.

Although a self-described music lover since early childhood, Kevin’s relationship to music began to change after his diagnosis. Kevin soon discovered that writing and performing his music allowed him to regain some of the freedom he’d lost as a result of his illness. In spite of the on-going restrictions placed on him by his illness, Kevin has managed to forge a highly accomplished and undeniably original body of work.

Documenting both the day-to-day challenges of living with mental illness and the fascinating relationship between Kevin’s condition and his art, ‘Hum’ delves into the truly unique and theatrical world of Kevin Nolan.

Over the past few years, Nathan Fagan has directed a number of short documentary films. He also works as a freelance editor and videographer. His previous short documentary, 'Fallen Bird', won the Audience Award for Best Short Documentary at the IFI Documentary festival and screened at numerous festivals, both in Ireland and abroad.

After graduating from the University of Siena, Antonio Spanò decided to leave a career in law behind in order to pursue his love for documentary filmmaking. His first experience as an independent filmmaker was in Kurdistan, Iraq when he was 22 years old. 
His previous films The Silent Chaos and Animal Park both set in Congo, won many awards in 2013-2014. Both films are a Journeyman Pictures exclusive international distribution and have been broadcasted in many countries around the world. 
Antonio currently works as a freelance camera operator and has traveled to Afghanistan, Libya and Haiti working for TV productions (RAI, MTV), reportages and film productions.

A possibilidade de experimentar todos estes formatos e as diferenças e semelhanças nas abordagens narrativas de cada um é algo que o fascina. Este é o seu primeiro trabalho como realizador de documentário.

 

Pedro Ramalho Marques has been working in television and advertising since 2004, having started his career as a production assistant. After several years working in this area, from 2008 he began to work regularly as an image editor, having had the opportunity to edit several types of television formats: reports, large-reports, magazines, documentaries, reality shows, video clips, advertisements, institutional videos, among others. She’s young. She’s in trouble. She’s staring at the mirror looking for answers. But what she's about to find can change her life.

 

Sara Eustáquio, born in September 1999, is a Portuguese young filmmaker who currently lives in Los Angeles. She is a BFA student majoring Film and Video at CalArts (California Institute of The Arts).

Passionate about photography and movies since the childhood, she shot at 14, in Portugal, her first short film, "Elizabeth" (about teenage bullying), with a small digital camera. The project began as a simple artistic presentation for an English class in high school. The enthusiasm with which it was received led her to upload it on YouTube. Surprisingly, the homemade video reached over 10,000 views in the first days (http://youtu.be/qjYyB8MQZQU).

After that, she started becoming involved in some local school and youth associations' video productions.

In May 2016, at 16, Sara released "4242", her first short fiction narrative film, also produced in Portugal. So far, "4242" got 50 awards, 27 nominations and was officially selected for 148 international film festivals in 36 countries (http://youtu.be/oemLpOFHnnE).

In August 2016, she successfully completed an intensive summer program in filmmaking at New York Film Academy, in New York City, where she made her second narrative fiction, the micro short mystery film "Mirror" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5958158). So far, "Mirror" got 62 awards, 21 nominations and was officially selected for 142 international film festivals in 27 countries (http://youtu.be/BV8VQ94ecsg).

In October 2016, Sara wrote a short script entitled "Neverland". So far, the screenplay got 1 award, 1 nomination and was officially selected for 6 international film festivals in 3 countries.

In November 2016, Sara was awarded a medal of merit by the mayor of her hometown, Torres Vedras, for her remarkable personal achievements in filmmaking. In January 2017, Sara was awarded another prize of merit by the board of her high school, Escola Secundaria Henriques Nogueira, for her remarkable personal achievements in filmmaking and inspirational path for Portuguese students.

In April 2017, she was awarded a scholarship by the Walt and Lilly Disney Foundation for her college studies.

The main character is a fifteen-year-old Max. He is looking for the reason to why he can’t meet his father’s expectations. The boy is seeking for the help of a therapist. Meanwhile, the therapist doesn’t take the issue seriously. He dismisses Max’s worries by taking them as part of dramatic behavior that a typical teenager has. Although, after the therapist hears Max’s story about a hiking trip in the forest that the boy once took with his father, it gets clear that the problem is real and it’s Max’s dad. Finally, the therapist decides that the only way for the dad to acknowledge his mistakes is if he puts himself in Max’s shoes and if he tries to look at the world in the same way that Max does.

 

Ignat Kachan was born on June 16, 1992 in Minsk, Belarus. He studied at the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, as an actor of drama theater and films, in 2011 (at the end of the second year) he left his studies and started studying camerawork and directing skills on his own. In 2013 he began to shoot social advertising and art commercials. . In 2014 he founded the film studio named BK Films. In 2016 Ignat made a short film "Under the canopy of trees". Now he working as a writer and director.

I graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki, Finland in 1997 – sculpture as main interest. It consisted of four years of very classical approach to the art – sculpting and drawing live model mainly.I now consider that simplified method as the greatest ability to deepen one’s perception on arts of any kind.That is persistent concentration on the subject.

After school for 3-4 years I went through a drawingproject to study more improvisationary aspect of doing art. As being a very thorough person that produced more than a thousand pieces of drawings. 
After a long period of depression, five years and during which I couldn’t make any artistic efforts whatsoever, I fell into photographing. At the moment, photographing has emerged to a moving phase - to a journey through short films.

Since five years Vivian, the sister of director Ingrid Kamerling, is no more. What happened to her? 
In this creative documentary, Ingrid Kamerling explores what happened to Vivian. She tries to get inside the head of her sister, by way of archival material, material she filmed shortly after the death of her sister, interviews with friends of Vivian and images of the people that were left behind. She tries to come to know Vivian by how people have known her. The images touch upon reality and imagination, sub consciousness, dreams and thoughts. The film records the echo of Vivian's existence; in her remaining stuff, the spaces where she lived, in the memories of people, the road she took to her last deed.



During the Dutch Film Festival 2013, Ingrid Kamerling was selected by the Dutch Film Fund as one of the three most talented young filmmakers in the Netherlands, based on her graduation film at the St. Joost Art Academy in Breda. She received a 'Wild Card' of € 40.000, - to further develop her film. "Inside my sister’s head" is the result of that. The VSB Fund supports the film with an additional grant.

Vincent hears voices and wonders where they come from. Guided by two elderly psychiatrists and the tones of his Sarangi, he starts a search within himself. Are the voices hallucinations or spirits from another world?

 

Maarten Kal is fascinated by characters who explore the twilight zone between philosophy and foolishness. Having a background in visual anthropology, Maarten worked on several creative documentaries both as a director and a cinematographer. Voices of Vincent is Maarten Kal’s film festival debut.
